Your Brand's Social Personality

Your Brand’s Social Media Personality

How do you like to conduct your business on social media? Are you an ‘I’ or a ‘We’. Are you ‘fun and out there’ or ‘serious and down to earth’?

It’s important that you understand and define your brand’s social media personality. Knowing exactly what personality to portray in your social media makes sure you connect on the right level with your clients.

Think about your brand – what does it represent? Is it fun, energetic and youthful? You may want to adopt a laid back writing style. However if you’re a corporate organisation, your posts should be more formal to enhance your credibility.

If your page is run by multiple admins, sign off an update with your name or initials to personalise the message: “Looking forward to showing you all our new collection! – DB”. This gives your brand personality and makes you ‘human’.

However, do keep in mind that there is always a time and place. While Facebook is social and fun, LinkedIn is professional and business only. Nobody wants to see cat videos clogging up their news feed when they are trying to network. Also, your Twitter updates need to be short, sharp and to the point, so deliver only the most essential information.

To make sure you are connecting with your audience, talk directly to your followers. Perhaps more importantly, listen to your followers. What are they interested in? What are they seeking? How could you assist them? You can still be creative just ensure that your writing style is relevant to your target audience.

Think about how you would like your company to be viewed and start implementing it into your marketing and communications right away. Don’t force it though. Make the right decision by going with whatever feels natural. You will be surprised at how easy it is!
